How To Paint ROOFS

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW WHEN PAINTING

  • Always follow the instructions on the product label for best results.
  • Preparation and correct product application are important.
  • There are no short-cuts.
  • Always follow the correct drying time recommendations.
  • Keep the room well ventilated when using an oil-based/solvent based paint.
  • Do not paint exterior surfaces when rain is expected within 4 hours after paint application.
  • Do not paint if surface temperatures are below 10 or above 30°C
  • Do not paint exterior surfaces in windy conditions.

New Roofs

Roofs (galvanized)

  1. Apply “NEO Metal Conditioner” to metal by brushing well with stiff nylon brush.
  2. Allow to react for 10 to 15 minutes and rinse with clean water by brushing down with stiff nylon brush.
  3. Sand out any red rust back to clean metal. Within 1 hour after cleaning spot prime areas that were rusted with one coat “NEO Corroguard Primer” and let dry for 4 hours.
  4. Seal all nail heads and flashing over-laps with 3 coats “NEO Elastic Water Proofing” allowing each layer to dry for 4 hours (larger gaps use in conjunction with membrane).
  5. Apply two coats “NEO Roof Paint” or “NEO CoolRoof” and allow to dry 4 hours between coats.

  7. Apply two coats “NEO Roof Paint”

Fiber Cement

  1. Remove dust and other contamination by brushing down with dry nylon brush.
  2. Apply one coat “NEO Bonding Liquid” over whole roof and allow to dry for 4 hours (not to exceed 48 hours before painting).
  3. Seal all nail heads and flashing over-laps with 3 coats “NEO Elastic Water Proofing” allowing each layer to dry for 4 hours (larger gaps use in conjunction with membrane).
  4. Apply two coats “NEO Roof Paint” or “NEO CoolRoof” and allow to dry 4 hours between coats.
  5. Apply by brush, Sheepskin / Corrogated Roller or airless spray
  6. Cleaning Solvent use water

  2. Remove blistering and peeling paint by scraper. Apply one coat “NEO Bonding Liquid” over whole roof and allow to dry for 4 hours (not to exceed 48 hours before painting).
  3. Seal all nail heads and flashing over-laps with 3 coats “NEO Elastic Water Proofing” allowing each layer to dry for 4 hours (larger gaps use in conjunction with membrane).
  4. Apply two coats “NEO Roof Paint” or “NEO CoolRoof” and allow to dry 4 hours between coats.
  5. Apply by brush,Sheepskin / 5. Corrogated Roller or airless spray

Roofing Felt

  1. Remove dust, other contamination and chalking (powdery) paint by brushing down with nylon brush and copious amounts of clean water and let dry completely.
  2. Spot prime all nailheads with “NEO Corrotec Primer” and allow to dry for 2 hours.
  3. Apply one coat “NEO Bitumen Black” over whole roof and allow to dry for 4 hours.
  4. Apply two coats “NEO Bitumen Aluminium” and allow to dry 4 hours between coats. Apply by brush, Mohair Roller or airless spray                  
  5. Cleaning Solvent for:
    a. NEO Corrotec Primer use NEO M-Thinner
    b. Bitumen Black / Aluminium use NEO Mineral Turpentine
